Graveside forgiveness

...forgiveness. But it was too late for that, and the fact that Bill couldn't bring himeself to ask for it until she couldn't deny him, was a tragedy.

At Wilma's funeral no-one saw Bill enter the chapel. He stood at the back with tears in his eyes. And as her casket was lifted by six men, he only recognised one of them. His old friend Jack, who he hadn't seen since the day his first son was born.

When the mourners disappeared, Bill went to Wilma's grave and wept, "Forgive me, my darling. Please forgive me.I just couldn't. I'm sorry. "

Bill sunk to his knees and shook with grief and guilt. He knew that nothing he could ever do now, would make it right. Wilma had died of cancer. She had never remarried. His son was sixteen. He had never seen him, except as an infant.

He knew the only thing he could do now was make it right with his son. But how....

Poor Wilma. Just updated Clive's murder scene so it makes sense. Now of course we have the mystery of how Wilma's miracle skin creme ended up in Alice's hands? Is it safe? Or was Alice's sister test case number two ..? (see Vanity)

Oh have I caused another prob with Wilma's death?- I'm just trying to find a way for Jack and Bill to be estranged... Still it took her 16 years to die- a lot could have happened in between...

And is this the first person I've killed? Can't remember- it's usually Scarlet's job, that!

I think there is a problem, because they would have been in the same village, no? Jack and Bill, I mean. Can't they be estranged within the village? Remember, he hates him, and his son, and so does Father Donohoe, and it seems everyone else.

Yeah but doesn't Bill go missing? Does he leg it? And who says Bill meets Joe's Mum in the village?

Maybe Wilma and son also leave the village after Bill runs away.

I like the idea that Clive comes looking for his half brother-(having already found his father) that's why he's back in the village as an adult.

That graveside could be anywhere.

Yes... I think I need to recap at some point. Is there another family tree somewhere...

I'm working on another family tree.

I think Bill ran away twice. First from Wilma and new born Clive, and then 16 years later, from Alice and nine year old Joe in the village.

Don't know when they arrived in the village. But the house, the house was left Alice by her godmother, I think. Would have to back check on that. And he had a failed haulage company in the village before he left Alice, which i was reminded.

So for the time immediately prior to him running away from Alice/Wilma's funeral he and Jack were in the same village, where Jack ran the bar. I think Violet's dad had the bar from early on, but that's another thing that would need to be checked on.

THere are around 7 years between leaving Wilma and Joe being born. We don't know what happened then.

But then, Jack was also, at some point, in Special Ops... so he must have been doing some work on the side of owning the bar. Maybe that's how the bar got bankrolled.
